For washing dishes & wiping counters.

4-ply kitchen cotton, such as Peaches & Creme or Sugar & Cream. (Peaches & Creme has the best colors: http://www.peaches-creme.com/store-pc.htm ).

Using US 5 (3.75mm) needles, cast on 31 stitches. Garter start & end rows. Pattern: 2 rows garter; 2 rows 1x1 rib, k3 edges.

If using long-tail cast-on, do Row 1 once before starting Rows 1-4. (If using thumb loops cast-on, do Row 1 twice before starting Rows 1-4.)

Row 1: Slip 1, K30.
Row 2: repeat Row 1.
Row 3: Slip 1, K2, *(p1k1)12, p1, k3.
Row 4: Slip 1, K2, *(k1p1)12, k4.

Repeat row 1 - 4 twelve times.

Repeat row 1 three times. Cast off. Weave in end(s).

This can also be worked very attractively in two colors, using 1 color for the garter rows and another for the 1x1 ribbing rows. Uses 1 oz. of yarn. Measures 7" x 7.5" when wet & in use.
